The 16mm film festival is a way of celebrating film as a medium. Of re-connecting with celluloid, bringing together a passionate community of makers who continue to work on film as a medium, build support systems and collectively see works made by artists/artist run labs from around the world. It’s also a yearly checkin for our studio – a showcase of our work.

The festival, started in 2017, has received a fantastic response, with an extensive lineup of film, workshops around hand developing and also alternative processes, found footage and film performances, along with talks and film experiences. Harkat, also an artist run film lab, is consistently building up resources, lost equipment and maintains 8mm, 16mm and 35mm projection facilities in the city.

The festival has been made possible by the many collaborations it has, most importantly with Kodak. We have received additional support from LaborBerlin and the Goethe Institut, Mumbai for the festival.
